Tjentište Monument
Located in the "Valley of the Heroes" in Tjentište, 2 hours away from Sarajevo in Bosnia and Herzegovina is the stunning "Battle of Sutjeska Memorial Monument".
The monument commemorates the battle of Sutjeska which took place in May - June 1943, in which 20,000 Partisans fought against 127,000 Germans and allies. In the end the Partisans succeeded and escaped, but the number of dead was huge (6000 Partisans and 2000 civilians), among them the legendary Partisan commander Sava Kovačević. This monument which opened in 1974 pays tribute to the lives lost.
There is also a visitors centre nearby which appears to be mostly underground and even has concrete doors, this was sadly closed during our visit.
