MiG in another Field
I appear to be good at finding these, in 2012 there was the MiG in a filed in Latvia and now this year we have another one in Russia.
About an hour out of Moscow is a dirt track the like you have never seen before, the pot holes could take out whole cars in a single gulp, we were in a rental car that we were only allowed to hire after taking out the mega insurance package and agreeing to terms and conditions which included (but were not limited to), not getting it dirty and not going off road - Sorry Hire Car company .... We very much invalidated all the terms and conditions on this one stretch of road!
The road was only 1.8 miles long and was traversed at a lot less than 5 miles an hour, so it took a while, about half way up the other cars dived left into the hedge where there was a large hole in the concrete fencing, bouncing past we saw a large pond or possibly lake where the locals were swimming fishing and having BBQ's what we were after was at the end of the road.
Sore heads and bums and 20 minutes later we reached the end, on the sat-nav the plane looked to be 5 minutes away through the woods, just a slight problem though the gates which were now right in front of us and were proudly displaying the double eagle of the Russian Army and just off to the right was a guard house with a very curious soldier making his way to our car. I chickened out at this point and left Rob and Matthew to make aeroplane gestures with their arms and hold their cameras up!
It worked! We were told it broken English (a lot better than our Russian) that the plane was just down the little track and to watch where we were going as the path was not too good. RESULT! We found the plane quite easily and happily climbed on, around and in it like very happy children for a good 30 minutes; we were under constant watch by another soldier and his dog who emerged from a small building across the field. Turns out that when we were leaving the watchful soldier may not have been keeping an eye on us but waiting for his lady friend to turn up and we passed her being escorted in as we were on our way out.
A quick wave to the helpful guard and we were back off down the rutted track with hopes of making it to the other end without concussions.
P.S. Pretty sure it's a MiG 23
