BARS 502
BARS was a Warsaw pact tropo-scatter network stretching from Rostok in the DDR through Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Poland, Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova and Bulgaria.
Tropo-scatter is a method of communicating using microwave radio signals, effective communication distances can reach 300km. When the USSR installed these system in Hungary, they funded the construction of BARS 504 whilst the remaining sites were funded and constructed by the Hungarians. To that end, 501, 502 & 503 are of a different design to BARS 504.
This was the best condition BARS station in Hungary that we visited with lots of things left to see including the cells in the guardhouse.
