Du Parc
The once luxurious underwear brand of Du Parc started up originally as the ‘NV Bonneterie Bosteels-De Smeth’ which was founded in 1880 as a glove knitting company.
The factory which borders the scenic park of Aalst spreads over 1.6 hectares of land and was once Belgium’s largest stocking and tights manufacturer with its success peaking during the 1960’s to 1970’s when the brand expanded its lines and created sub-brands such as ‘Minouche’.
Du Parc was employing over 600 workers at this time, however the success was short lived and the 1980’s saw a considerable decline in sales and increasing overheads attributed to materials expenses and production expenditure. The factory closed its doors in 2001 declaring bankruptcy with an incapacitating debt of nearly 18 million Euros.
