I.M power plant cooling tower
Power Plant I.M was biuilt in 1921 and at the time it was one of the largest coal fired power plants in Belguim. By the 1970's the plant had been reconfigured to also run on gas power; the power plant and its massive tower was the main source of energy in the Charleroi area and is said to have been able to cool down 480,000 gallons of water per minute!
A report into the power palnt in the 2000's revealed that the plant was responsible for 10% of all carbon dioxide emissions in Belguim, greenpeace protests brought the plant under international scrutiny and the plat was closed in 2007.
Due to the presence of the police and fire brigade in the main plant on the day we visited we decided to stick to the Cooling tower, which is very impresive in itself :)
